"HGST : FIRST HELIUM HARD DRIVE CAPACITY OF 10 TB"
Race hard drives continues. Recently, we reported that the company Seagate has introduced a hard drive capacity of 8 terabytes, the manufacture of which is not used gel technology. However, the company said HGST Seagate, releasing a hard drive capacity of 10 terabytes.
As we know, the company HGST, a subsidiary of Western Digital, specializes in the production of helium drives. In these hard drives instead of the inside of the air filled with helium, which allows for increased capacity.
As well as the resource bit-tech.net, the new product technology is implemented SMR (Shingled Magnetic Recording), in which adjacent tracks overlap. The use of SMR and helium filling HGST allowed to create hard drive form factor of 3.5 inches with a very high density recording, the capacity of which amounted to 10 terabytes.
It also reported that, despite the high capacity internal drive power consumption is not greatly increased.
The company plans to start selling HGST unique hard disk in 2015. Also worth noting is that the representatives of the company reported that in 2017 they plan to completely abandon the production of conventional hard drives, preferring helium.
